Connect breaks ground in East Leeds

We’ve officially broken ground on a development of 23 new energy efficient, low carbon homes at Killingbeck Bridge, Leeds.
Connect has partnered with Cubed Group to create the new estate of one, two, and three bedroom homes for low-cost social rent for the East Leeds community. The scheme is part funded by Homes England – the UK Government’s housing and regeneration agency – through the Social and Affordable Homes Programme.

Left to Right: Cllr David Dresser, Cllr Katie Dye, local resident Alex Gillies, Connect Chief Executive Helen Lennon, Richard Burgon MP for Leeds East, Connect Director of Home Martyn Broadest and Cllr David Jenkins.
The new properties will boast additional features such as solar panels and low-carbon heating, as part of our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and addressing the Climate Emergency.
Current expectations are for the homes to be finished by autumn 2027, with the new residents being selected through the Leeds Homes bidding system.
The groundbreaking event was attended by Cllr Katie Dye, Cllr David Jenkins and Cllr David Dresser, representatives for Killingbeck and Seacroft Ward, as well as local residents and Connect partners.
Also in attendance was Richard Burgon, MP for Leeds East, who said:
“I’m delighted that Connect Housing are building these much-needed new homes for low-cost rent for local people in my constituency. East Leeds is a fantastic place to live, but like most places across Leeds there is a housing shortage, and affordable new homes in appropriate places are an important way to meet that need in our community. It’s fantastic that this new development is going to be for social rent, supported by the government Social and Affordable Homes Programme, and I’m looking forward to coming back again next year to celebrate the completion of the new scheme and to meet the new residents.”
Martyn Broadest, Director of Home at Connect said:
“We are so pleased to be working with Cubed Group on this exciting new development. Connect already provides homes for many hundreds of families across East Leeds and we are delighted to be adding to that offer with this new scheme at Killingbeck Bridge. We’re grateful to Homes England for supporting the project through the new Social and Affordable Homes Programme, and believe it’s one of the first schemes in Leeds to be delivered through the government’s new commitment of £39 billion of support for new social housing over the next 10 years”
