Assignment is when an existing tenant passes their tenancy over to another person, generally a family member.

In order to assign a tenancy, there's a strict list of criteria that has to be met. One of the main criteria is that the current tenant must hold an assured or secure tenancy, with a tenancy agreement that states they have the right to request an assignment.

If you are currently the sole lead tenant and wish to assign your tenancy to someone else, please contact us on 0300 5000 600.

Once you’ve contacted us, we will send you an ‘Application to Assign Tenancy’ form. Once you've completed it, send it back to us with the proposed new tenant's

  • Proof of ID
  • Proof of current residency (at least 12 months old)
  • Proof of earnings
  • Proof of right to rent

Once we’ve received your completed form, along with the supporting information, we'll process the request. After this, your Community Housing Officer will send a letter confirming the decision.

For more information on the process, read our 'Assigning a Tenancy' leaflet.

If you’ve officially changed your name via a ‘deed of change of name’, then you will need to let us know and send us a copy of the deed, so we can update our records.

To let us know, you can call us on 0300 5000 600, email us via hello@connecthousing.org.uk, or let us know via your online account.

If you’re the sole, lead tenant and want to add someone to your tenancy agreement as a joint tenant, please contact us on 0300 5000 600.

We will send you an ‘Application to Amend Tenancy from
Sole-to-Joint' form. Please complete it as soon as possible and send it back to us, along with the following information about the proposed joint tenant:

  • Proof of ID
  • Proof of current residency (at least 12 months old)
  • Proof of earnings
  • Proof of right to rent

Once we’ve received your completed form, along with the supporting information, we will process the request. After this, your Community Housing Officer will send a letter confirming the decision.

Please note, we have strict criteria that the proposed joint tenant must meet and if they don’t, we will have to refuse the request.

For more information on the process, read our 'Changing a Tenancy' leaflet.

If your tenancy agreement is currently under joint names and you wish to remove someone from it, please contact us on 0300 5000 600.

Once we’ve received your completed form, we will process the request. After this, your Community Housing Officer will send a letter confirming the decision.

If your request is approved, we will arrange a visit to sign the Deed of Assignment. This will need signatures from both the tenant remaining on the tenancy, and the tenant being removed

For more information on the process, read our 'Changing a Tenancy' leaflet.

We understand that dealing with the death of a family member or close friend, as well as clearing a property, can be an overwhelming experience.

The first step following a tenant's death is to let us know as soon as possible on 0300 5000 600. We know that this is a difficult conversation, but we will need to ask you some questions to advise you on the next steps.
