Important information about the Renters’ Rights Act

You may have seen information in the media about tenancy changes as a result of the Renters’ Rights Act, which are largely focused on private rented accommodation at present.

These changes do not currently apply to social rented tenants, so your tenancy rights and responsibilities remain the same. Some changes will, however, come into effect in 2027, following government consultation and guidance from our regulator. We will keep you informed about the changes as we get to know more and explain what it means for you.

For shared owners, some changes apply from May where a subletting arrangement has been approved. More information can be found in the Shared Ownership section of our website.

Connect has a very small number of homes, 8 in total, that are let on market rents. Some changes come into effect on the 1 May 2026 for those tenants, and they will be notified directly about how the changes affect them.
