This week we’re supporting #DeafAwarenessWeek2021 and recognising the 1 in 6 Deaf or hard of hearing people in the UK.
#DeafAwarenessWeek2021 aims to promote the positive aspects of Deafness, encourage social inclusion and raise awareness of the huge range of local organisations that support deaf people and their family and friends.
At Connect we provide two services for Deaf people, alongside our partners SignHealth, at Constance Way and Brudenell Road.
Our property at Constance Way provides essential and meaningful round the clock residential care for Deaf and hard of hearing residents. Residents with highly complex needs are supported to gain new skills, improve self-esteem and become actively involved in the local and broader community.
Set to open in June, on Brudenell Road, in Leeds, our newest service with SignHealth promises to offer highly adapted homes for people with complex medical needs.
Also working with Leeds City Council and the NHS Leeds Clinical Commissioning Group, the Connect property is being remodelled to provide four self-contained flats for people who need to be close to medical support but will benefit from independent living.
The accessible community location of the development will give residents easy access to local Deaf services, as well as support them to develop friendships and build connections with others who understand the way they interact with the world around them.
Senior Manager for Wellbeing and Support David Bagnall said: “We have always been proud to provide services that support Deaf people. Deaf Awareness Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the work we do in partnership with SignHealth and most important to raise awareness about this issue.”
