Essential Electrical Testing

Essential Electrical Testing resumed Tuesday 26th May 2020. If your electrical inspection is due, our contractors – Ashley & McDonough, will contact you directly to arrange for this to be undertaken.

When an appointment is booked, you will be asked a number of questions and we’ll check that there’s no suspected or confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the household. Please don’t be alarmed, this is to protect us all and to stop the spread of the virus.

If anything changes prior to your appointment and you or a family member becomes unwell, please let us know as soon as possible.

The reason we need access into your property to complete the electrical safety check is to inspect the condition of your existing installation. This will:

  • Reveal if any of your electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded
  • Find any potential electrical shock risks and fire hazards in your electrical installation
  • Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding
  • Identify if your smoke detection is up to standard. With this in mind, the electrician will need access to all sockets, switches, light fittings and the consumer unit. Before the appointment, you will need to ensure clear access to the fittings is provided.

The test can take approximately four hours (providing the electrician does not experience any problems whilst carrying out the testing).

Our priority is the wellbeing and safety of our colleagues, contractors, customers and we want you to know that we have everything in place to carry out the testing safely. Electricians will wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including face masks and gloves to protect themselves and you. They will wipe down surfaces in the area which they will be working.

In line with government guidance – before the operative arrives at your home, where possible, please open windows and leave internal doors open to encourage ventilation. We ask that where possible, you go into a different room or keep at least 2 metres away from the operative carrying out the testing.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding an appointment for electrical testing please contact Ashley & McDonough on 0151 430 6191 or Donna Barnes, Customer Safety Officer on 0300 5000 600.
