Staff spotlight: Dipa Mistry

Our ‘staff spotlight’ showcases some of the fantastic colleagues who work at Connect.

In this edition Dipa Mistry, Business Assurance Officer, shares her dream superpower and the best part of her job!

Why did you choose to work at Connect Housing?

I was offered a job at a similar housing association on the same day, but chose Connect as I got the sense I’d enjoy working with the people I had met during the interview process, and I was right!

I had previously worked for a local authority, which was a really great experience, but it could sometimes take a while to implement great ideas just by the nature of it being a big, bureaucratic machine. I felt Connect fitted well with what I was looking for, which was to work for a company with a genuine social purpose that could affect change slightly quicker and respond to changing times more effectively. Over the past few years that has been proven to be necessary!

I stayed at Connect and have worked in several different roles. I’ve appreciated the opportunity to gain a breadth of experience that I may not have gained elsewhere.

Describe your job in three words.

Collaborative, fast-paced, purposeful.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

This was a tough one as who wouldn’t want the ability to fly carbon-footprint free, be invisible, time travel, etc. However, right now I would love to be able to pause time à la Bernard’s Watch!

In theory I’d do something noble with it, like use my spare time to help try and solve the climate crisis. In reality, I’d probably spend it on mundane, everyday stuff like filling up the shopping trolley and beating everyone to the checkout queue, or running to the bus stop when I can see I’m about to miss it! How great would it be to get a couple of jobs done and still have the rest of the day to sort out the rest of my life?!

What’s the best part of your job?

It’s a cliché but true that it’s genuinely varied. Dealing with data protection, health and safety, and regulatory compliance – which are all separate fields in their own right – means I’m never bored and there’s always something to learn!

As I’m nosey, I like knowing what’s going on and as I get to work with all parts of the business under different guises it ticks that box.
