Meet Jude Thompson
Jude Thompson has been a Connect resident for 20 years.
Now working in the NHS after 30+ years in housing, Jude devotes some of her spare time to getting involved with Connect’s tenant engagement projects.
What sort of projects have you been involved in?

Jude Thompson
I’ve been involved in the Service Improvement Forum (SIF) for three years, attending the meetings and actively participating in the discussions to help move towards Connect getting things right and improving the service.
Outside the meetings, I’ve been involved in an online Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) session which included staff, residents and, most importantly, residents who have lived experience of ASB. This session helped to shape the new Policy & Procedures, so Connect can support residents experiencing ASB. I was also involved in the recruitment of new members of the Board.
Why did you decide to get involved?
Because housing is a passion of mine, and I had the time to get involved once I started working part time. I want to see the tenants being listened to and heard; it’s vital in ensuring that Connect is doing what their tenants want and is right for them.
What’s your favourite part about tenant engagement activities?
I’ve found tenant engagement activities where everyone participates such good fun. Everyone has different life experiences and brings new things to the table that may not have been experienced by others. This can bring new perspectives on situations.
One of the best things recently was changing the format of SIF meetings. We break off into little groups at times and use a giant thermometer to gauge interest. It means we move around in the meetings and all speak to one another, rather than just sitting in one place for three hours. Keeps your brain active and allows for better outcomes.
What would you say to a resident thinking about getting involved?
I would say do it! Be part of the solution. Being involved can make things better for yourself, your neighbours and your community.
The latest things we’ve achieved together with residents
- Residents reviewed the way we run our customer services and we’re now working on a charter to ensure high customer service standards across Connect.
- You told us that we need to get better at keeping you informed. We’ve been working on it and have begun using a new communications tool that allows us to provide timely updates to you via email and text, for example to let you know when works will be carried out in communal areas.
- Newall Close residents told us they wanted level access to the allotments, so our groundworks team installed a new path this spring.
- Yew Tree Court residents shared that their pet policy wasn’t working for them, so residents and staff have worked together to develop a new one.
