Hawthorn Mill celebrates Yorkshire Day
From pie and peas to a Yorkshire themed wordsearch, residents at Hawthorn Mill celebrated this year’s Yorkshire Day to the fullest.
Hawthorn Mill, which is specifically designed for over 55s, hosted its Yorkshire Day event for all residents this August, with the lounge adorned in Yorkshire themed bunting.
Starting with a wordsearch over tea and biscuits, things got competitive with a quiz, before rounding off with a pie and peas supper.

Louise Clark, Sue Hendry and Angela Galloway (L-R)
Dawn Newsome from Helping Hands – an Armley based charity which supports older people in Leeds – visited to announce the new “Not So Rusty” project starting in September, which is a set of weekly sessions about dancing and movement in a way that’s accessible to everyone over 50.
Once the meal was done, there was a final round of teas and coffees accompanied by a slice of Victoria sponge!
The Yorkshire Day event was organised by Hawthorn Mill’s events team which is headed up by Sue Hendry and celebrates a huge range of events, from St George’s Day to International Picnic Day!
Sue said: “Yorkshire Day is one of the many events we have here at Hawthorn Mill celebrating Yorkshire and sharing cultures!”
