Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) sits at the heart of our vision for a sustainable and just society.

At Connect we believe everyone should be treated fairly and have access to opportunities. We aim to create environments where customers and colleagues feel they belong, where everyone’s talents are recognised, and people feel valued and respected. Diversity matters to us, because differences help make the places where we live and work stronger.

Our EDI Strategy sets out our approach. Our current EDI objectives are focused on:

  • Ensuring our EDI commitments are embedded in our culture.
  • Providing fair access to homes and services.
  • Improving our data so that we understand the implications of decisions we make.
  • Having a diverse workforce and Board that is representative of the local population.
  • Hearing the voices of our diverse customers because everyone’s voice matters and opinion counts.

As well as complying with the Equality Act 2010, in providing protection for people against discrimination or harassment because they have (are perceived to have or are associated with someone who has) a protected characteristic, and with the ‘Public Sector Equality Duty’, in the current economic environment our social purpose is more important than ever in tackling the inequalities in our society.

Our latest report

Each year we put together the ‘Tenant Baseline and Service Provision’ report. It’s aim is to look in depth at how effectively we are including the whole Connect community in our vision – a sustainable and just society, where good homes, neighbourhoods and opportunities help people to enjoy happy, healthy lives.

We made progress this year on the data we collect from residents due to the introduction of a new Tenancy Commencement form. Work has begun on promoting a culture of commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion across the organisation, with staff views being taken into account at our conference.

In the report you will find how representative our workforce, board and resident forums are of the communities we serve. There is also analysis of how we can improve the EDI data we hold and collect.
