What is a "Mutual Exchange"?

If you want to move to a different area or need a bigger or smaller home, you could by 'swapping' your home with another tenant - very importantly, you need our prior permission.

Am I eligible to exchange?

To be eligible to exchange:

  • every tenant involved in the exchange must be a tenant of a Housing Association, ALMO or local authority;
  • every tenant must have an Assured, Secure or Fair tenancy before they can be considered;
  • every tenant must have been in their current property for at least 12 months before being eligible;
  • every tenant must have written consent from their landlord to transfer their tenancy.

You may not be eligible for a mutual exchange if:

  • you have rent arrears or regularly pay your rent late.
  • you are subject to any legal action for breaches of tenancy.
  • the mutual exchange results in under-occupation or overcrowding.
