There was an excellent turnout at the Colne Valley Futurebuilders event held at Slaithwaite Community Centre on Tuesday 13 July. This recruitment event provided an opportunity for local, unemployed people to register their interest in one of eight apprenticeships offered by Connect Housing and ‘build’, a development initiative linking local people with jobs in the construction industry.
The eight apprentices will assist in renovating nine properties across Marsden and Slaithwaite to a high standard. The properties will be let at affordable rents to local people in housing need. The two year program allows recruits to gain knowledge of the construction industry, learn new skills in a range of building trades and achieve an NVQ level 2 in Maintenance Operations through Calderdale College.
The full time positions are supported by Kirklees Council, representing a first for the region. Connect is looking for enthusiastic workers that are willing to learn and embark on a new career in building maintenance. The successful candidates will not only be employed for the next two years, but will be provided with the foundations to build a successful career in the construction industry.
