Career & Personal Development

Learning and growing

Our commitment to the training and development of all our employees is up there with the best. Whether through supporting you in gaining a professional qualification, involving you in wide ranging projects, helping you to fix those skills gaps or encouraging you to keep on learning just for the fun of it. We have the commitment to match your enthusiasm for learning and growing.

Annual Reviews

Our Performance Management Scheme ensures that every employee benefits from separate Performance and Personal and Career Development reviews each year that identify both short and long term training and development needs as well career potential.

How we train

Training is provided through external courses, in-house externally facilitated workshops, distance learning, on-line and blending learning, professional qualification day release, on the job training, secondments etc. You name it - we'll try it! We also have our own dedicated IT training suite. And, of course, there's always "Nellie" on hand to show you how to do things!

Learning to learn

To encourage everyone to keep on learning, we provide £50 “Blue Sky” learning allowances to every employee, every year. These can be spent on any kind of learning activity and anything to do with work is specifically not allowed! Activities have included language classes, driving lessons, photography courses, flying a helicopter - you name it, it's probably been done!

Getting on

We also believe in encouraging career development for those that want to and provide opportunities for secondments, acting up roles etc., to allow people to try out new roles and gain new experiences, knowledge and skills.

While we believe it is important for our employees to understand and gain experience in all areas of the business, it is just as important, particularly in the early days, to make an impact in your own team, so make sure when you are applying for a job with us you're truly motivated about undertaking the role you’re interested in.

Graduates

Connect doesn't run a formal graduate scheme. We welcome applications from people with a range of experiences and qualifications. To us, it's what you do on the job that counts not how many letters you've got after your name.

Having said that, a many very qualified people have built successful careers at Connect by coming in and proving just how fantastic they are sometimes gaining even more qualifications along the way through our Professional Training programme.

If you are a Graduate with a passion for working in an organisation that "gives something back", take a look at the opportunities available.

We're sure we'll recognise your star qualities before too long.

Being a team player

Because this is so important to the way we work, we provide another "Blue Sky" allowance - this time to individual teams - to create and go on their own "away days".

We positively encourage teams to come up with ideas and have had our people zip wiring, handling birds of prey, treasure hunting, visiting lighthouses (!) and getting lost in secret gardens - all followed by a good night out of course!
