Challenge my fuel supplier for a better deal!

Most people will be aware that the cost of fuel has risen dramatically over the last few years, and although suppliers have recently published price reductions it is widely accepted that the high price of fuel is likely to be here to stay.

Connect Housing has increased the efficiency of its properties with a cavity wall and loft top-up insulation programme wherever possible. We are also continuing to install high efficiency boilers into our properties, along with other ad-hoc measures. We hope to build on this success in the coming years by specifically targeting those homes that are the least efficient to ensure that all of our tenants have warm homes. Sadly, the Yorkshire & Humber region is reporting high numbers of people experiencing fuel poverty, and for this reason working with tenants on Affordable Warmth remains high on our agenda.

Connect Housing is also supporting the Energy Best Deal campaign run by the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), and we would urge all of our tenants to take some time to ensure that you are getting a good deal from your supplier – as, sadly, not everyone is. If you are not keen on switching suppliers it is always worth contacting your supplier to ask whether the tariff that you are currently on is the cheapest one available. If it is not, ask to be transferred. It is also worth asking about the Social Tariffs that suppliers offer to see whether you fulfil the criteria. Those who have debts with their utility companies should ask if they have a trust fund to help with the repayment of debt. Five minutes on the phone to your supplier may save you £s off of your bills throughout the year!
