Funding for improvement and planned works is always tight and Connect Housing allocates funding according to the findings of its stock condition survey and asset management strategy. This leaves little flexibility for tenant priorities and input. Therefore the independent “Connect Residents Federation” for Connect Housing tenants, the CRF, has lobbied successfully for a ring-fenced tenants’ priority fund for its members.
One of the most important things with this application is to make sure your good idea is supported by as many of your neighbours as possible. If you are not sure how to approach your neighbours get in touch with the Community Services team at Connect Housing for help
In 2009 the CRF revisited the criteria that are used to score applications when the panel meets. Please note that any bids under £500 don’t have to go to the panel, but will be decided throughout the year at CRF officers’ meetings. When the panel meets, points will be awarded to applications which address the following criteria well:
• How well is the bid supported?
• Does it help with security and crime reduction?
• Does it help with health and safety?
• Does it benefit vulnerable tenants?
• Does it benefit the wider community?
• Could the project be funded by a different budget?
• Does it help with energy efficiency?
• Does the bid contribute to improving the environment?
The Community Services Team has also changed the application form to reflect the new name and criteria.
Decisions for applications over £500 (large bids) are made in the summer by a panel of CRF members selected by the CRF committee. Work for these large bids will start in the autumn of 2009 for successful projects.
Please note that small grants (bids under £500) will be considered by the CRF on a rolling basis.
