 Karen Lyth

Describe the job areas you currently work in:

I lead the Strategic Housing and Regeneration Service at Wakefield Council.  This gives me an exciting portfolio of services and projects including initiatives to deliver more market and affordable homes, city and town centre regeneration, supporting and protecting tenants in the private rented Sector, improving property conditions in privately owned homes, carbon reduction and affordable warmth and the Breathing Space scheme which helps home owners struggling with mortgage debt. I am on the Board of the Council’s Housing Joint Venture company, Bridge Homes, building new homes across the district, and have recently joined the Board of the Northern Housing Consortium.

Describe the experience/qualifications you have:

I qualified as a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing in 1994 and have been working in local authority housing services for 28 years. Most of my work has been on strategy and regeneration, but I have also managed very large capital programmes, led research teams, designed and delivered estate remodelling schemes and managed performance and communications teams.  I have also worked extensively on sub region and city region work in both South and West Yorkshire.

Describe the strengths you feel you bring to the Board:

I have an enduring commitment to helping provide better homes for local people, and the experience and creativity needed to drive the development of innovative services to help meet housing needs in the future.

 Joined Connect's Board in 2017.
