Describe the job areas you currently work in:
I am an architect and have worked at Leeds City Council since September 2017 as Senior Design Officer in the urban design team.
Describe the experience/qualifications you have:
I worked in private practice for ten years before joining the Housing Corporation (which became the Homes and Communities Agency) to promote sustainability and quality in new housing. Whilst at the HCA I developed a design appraisal tool for measuring the impact of completed schemes, with particular focus on external space and its impact on social interaction and community cohesion. My literature review on the impact of residential street layout on children’s independent play and mobility, was published in March 2017.
I have a Master’s Degree in Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies.
Describe the strengths you feel you bring to the Board:
I believe that a home is more than the space within it, and extends to the street and the neighbourhood – a community makes a home strong and sustainable. I have strong design and construction knowledge from my background in architectural practice which covered a diverse workload including several housing projects.
Joined Connect's Board in 2017.
